After the success of Speed Run 2003 held in Mumbai in January 2003, Autocar India is planning to organise 3 more mega drag meets for cars and bikes sponsored by Speed from Bharat Petroleum – in Bangalore at Jakkur Airstrip on 22nd and 23rd November 2003.
The drag meet will essentially consist of an acceleration test from a standstill to the 400 metre mark. The winners will be based on the car and driver who clocks the least elapsed time over the said distance. This event will be run as per the norms laid down by the FIA and FIM for similar sporting events.
Entries are open for the first event in Bangalore and can be had from the AUTOCAR website.

UPDATE
The event turned out to be a hit, as has become common with all the events held in Bangalore till now. The crowd was estimated at 11,000 and that must be an all time high for an event held at the Jakkur Aerodrome.
The event was publicised so well that some people brought their entire families hoping it was some kind of a consumer fair. How do I know? One elderly couple was really pissed off about it and were grumbling as we strolled around the venue. The police had a tough time controlling the crowds and after sometime began to get over enthusiastic. One cop almost cost me one of the cameras in all the pushing and shoving. All the people though seemed to be having fun, and so were the competitors. Enjoy a few photographs from the event as I search for the results. (More photographs yet to come, just need to clean them up and then I’ll put them online.)
