This article shows you how to create your own clubman or clip-on kind of handlebars specifically to suit your riding position and ( 🙂 ) on a budget. Written for the RD350, but adaptable for just about any bike.
- Go to your nearest motorcycle accessories shop and buy a butterfly (?) handlebar.
- Cut the “U” shaped part of the handlebar away from the two straight pieces, where your controls are usually fixed.
- Fix the handlebar onto the triple clamp of your bike but with both the ends of the “U” facing downwards at an angle.
- Now just place the pieces that have been cut at an angle that you think would give you the most comfortable angle to sit and ride.
- Weld a single spot to keep them in their place and then sit on the bike and try it out. Get a friend to hold the bike upright as you take the bike off the stand and your legs off the ground. Double check the position.
- Next weld the bars into position properly.Use sand paper and give the sharp and unsightly edges a smooth finish.
Paint/ touch up the handlebar if necessary. Else leave it like that for a mean look.Â
I am sure this write up is confusing with out images of the stock handle bar that starts out as the raw material for this DIY. Will get some snaps of it the moment I lay my hands on a digital camera.
That’s about it!!
