A video of Dirt Action magazine’s Adam Riemann riding the Hero Impulse in the Himalayas. Some videos and advertisements are made by manufacturers and directed by people who do not ride motorcycles. They fail to capture the essence of riding and appear like ridiculous comedies. And then, you have videos like these.
This is a story of him riding across the Himalayas with his dad. A fantastic adventure. Some routes they have taken in India and Nepal are way out there. If this video does not keep you riveted, I am unsure what will. The suspension and light weight of the Impulse makes it great on terrain like this.
Fuel is hard to come by in the Himalayas. Ask any Royal Enfield traveller. Most times, the vast panniers on the Enfields prepped for the Ladakh region used to carry fuel—more than anything else mainly. The Impulse, with its better fuel efficiency, especially once you hit higher altitudes, will make it less necessary to lug the jerry cans and protect fuel.
Though this video is old, I thought of it this past Wednesday night. I sat with some Rolling Thunder mates discussing rides coming up this year. And inevitably, the discussion veered towards Leh Ladakh.
I hope this will make him give everyone with an Impulse a good chance before making up their mind.
Royal Enfield or Hero Impulse – What’s your pick?
We had a round of discussions with opinions going both ways. I’d love to hear what you think is a better choice for an exploratory ride without a set plan through Ladakh. Let me know in the comments section below, and probably look at the Specifications of the Hero Impulse before you make up your mind.
Hero Impulse in the Himalayas Video
Finally, the video. This is the best 7 minutes 30 seconds that you spend today.
The images you see in this post are all grabs from the video. Hence, the low resolution. Don’t jump at me; this is too good not to share. And the copyrights with Adam and Dirt Action.
