Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey 2007

The Himalayan Odessy is back for 2007 after a great ride in the past couple of years. Though it is not exactly hardcore to many ‘adventurers’, citing many reasons like having backup vehicles and  mechanics, I’ve met a few riders who really enjoyed being on the Odessy. {mosimage}This is because people who would never have been able to go on such rides by themselves, find this a really good alternative. for the exact same reasons, some others would refrain from going. All the more reason to go if you have just bought one of the those new Machismo AVL 500s. There is no better place to put all the truck tractor loads of torque to better use, than in the challenging terrain of THE mountains. More over, who wouldn’t want to blast up the dirt tracks of the Himalayas when you can be sure of you luggage being safe in the truck behind.

The following is the press release from Royal Enfield regarding the Himalayan Odessey 2007. Continue reading Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey 2007

Yamaha India riding the wave

About 3 months after Yamaha India’s MD threatened to shut shop, there seems to be renewed efforts towards reviving the company. Economic Times reports that the company plans to position itself as a “fun bike maker” and is looking at pumping Rs 600 crore in the next two years.

There are some more points about an R1 and other models, but then the Indian public has been taken for a ride plenty of times in the recent past with random reports like this. I would take it with a pinch of salt and recommend you the same!  Continue reading Yamaha India riding the wave

2007 Raid De Himalaya

The 9th Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya 2007 will run between the 4th and 13th  of October 2007.

The 2007 Raid de Himalaya 2007 will run two versions, concurrently, as in the last five years, the X-Treme and the Adventure Trial. The reliability trial is renamed the “Adventure trial” as it has grown to be much more than just a test of machine reliability.

With the success of the “Maruti Suzuki Raid de Himalaya” over 8 consecutive years, Himalayan Motor sport has been attentive to requests from motoring enthusiasts all over India for a car rally having a lower level of competition, stress and difficulty; but one which would allow the adventurous to enjoy the real Himalayas in a stock car, without the expensive modifications that rally cars are compulsorily subject to.

More importantly, the idea is to enjoy the vast cultural heritage of a land that is exotic, beautiful and awe inspiring to say the least; without having to sacrifice the family car in the attempt! At the same time it is necessary to introduce an element of competitiveness that would make this rally much more than a tour.

Remember, entries are open from May 1st and pay early to save some money!

I had some quick links to the Raid which were relevant at the time, but the sources have disappeared with time.

  • How Do I enter the Raid De Himlaya and Entry Form Details?
  • What are the dates and routes taken by the rally?
  • I’ve a lot of doubts about the X-Treme… find answers here.
  • What are the rules and regulations of this rally?
  • How much would it approximately cost to participate in this event?
