The 6-lane highway stretch on the way to Nandi Hills as the venue for this weekend’s meet.
What we planned to do was a small drag meet among the Bangalore club guys and a few other friends to see where we stood and what the best times were. Among others who joined us were some local mechanics on their heavily ported RX(G)135 that were built for the drag strip and a few others with their imported 1000cc Yamaha supersport bikes.
The meet turned out to be a great hit and everyone had fun. Since two people were timing the bikes, two bikes could run together and be timed. This led to quite a few combinations like a 135cc RX(G) running next to a 1000cc R1. Those are the times when you realise the importance of 3-4 seconds.
Among those who participated from the club were Sanjay, Christopher, Unni, Aditya and Ron. All of them on RDs other than Ron who was on his Honda VF750. Sasha did a few runs on his R1 and a friend of his did one too. The other Yamaha superbike, a YZF1000 Thunderace, came only when we were leaving the place to return home. So that bike did not do any runs. Atleast not when we were around.
The only sad part of the meet was that, none, I repeat none of the RDs were able to beat the RX(G). Though there were some close and near finishes, the puny thing prevailed.
The timings that were seen that day were in these ranges. The RDs ran low 15s, the R1 ran high 11s and the RX(G) ran high 14s.
The whole meet was wound up by collecting some money for the orphanage by all the club guys who were around. Thanks to Ron for getting his digital camera and hope I can use the photographs!
